Eminent Industrialist Ratan Tata nominated as a Chairman of Advisory Council of University of Mumbai

 Mumbai, 25th Feb- The well-known industrialist Padmavibhushan Ratan Tata has been nominated as the chairman of the advisory council of the University of Mumbai, under Maharashtra Public University Act-2016. With the provision of creating employment opportunities for the youth and having vast experience of global trends in the field of educational entrepreneurship Ratan Tata has been nominated as the Chairman of the Advisory Council by The Chancellor. As a head of Tata Group Shri Ratan Tata has navigated the companies to greater heights in India and globally while retaining the Tata ethos and Values. The University is privileged to have a person of his stature, vision and humility as a chairman of the advisory council.

 Along with this a renowned scientist with experience working in national and global institutes working on research and development policies and strategies Padmavibhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar has been nominated as a member of prestigious advisory council, Dr. Anil Kakodkar’s role is unparalleled in asserting India’s sovereignty and self reliance in the area of nuclear energy and armaments. Under his guidance India was able to demonstrate its nuclear submarine power pack technology. Sujata Saunik Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Maharashtra has also been nominated a member on advisory council. The nomination of the remaining two members will be announced soon. The Vice-Chancellor and the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University shall be the Ex-Officio members of the Advisory Council of the Advisory Council of the University of Mumbai.

The power and the duties of advisory council are to advise the Vice Chancellor through generation of reports and action plans in  academic, research and development, administration, generation of financial resources and governance so as to make a University academically vibrant administratively efficient and financially a strong system. Further, it can also devise a mechanism and approach for monitoring of the working of the University system as a whole and to keep track of the activities and provide information and critical analysis and comments on the progress and impact of the activities on the working of Universities and its identity in the society. It is to advise the University regarding strategic perspective planning and to take up any other task that the chairman of the council shall find importance for the growth of the University, to make periodic report on the development, progress, working of University to the chancellor and to keep track of various reforms and policies thereon as devised by the commission.
